The title of Pastor Lee’s sermon for the week of August 5, 2012 is “Construction Site: Peace and Unity”, based on scriptures from Psalms 51:1-12 and Ephesians 4:1-16. The hymns for Sunday are “O God of Every Nation,” “I’ve Got Peace Like a River” and “Let There be Peace on Earth.”
Michael Wilbanks, a member of our church who attends Missouri State University, spent some time this past summer in Africa on a missionary trip, along with other students. On August 12, 2012 at 5:30 PM, we will have a carry-in dinner at the church. Michael Wilbanks will speak and show pictures of his experiences on the mission trip. This is a great way to hear how our youth is helping to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world.
Chancel Choir and Bell Choir will begin rehearsals on Wednesday, August 29, 2012. Bell Choir will be at 6:00 pm and Chancellor Choir will be at 7:00 pm. Please contact Jeff Sandquist for more information.

The membership committee is planning a float trip for August 18. We will probably float the Big Piney, which should have enough water. The outfitter has both canoes and rafts. If you are interested, please contact Jonathan Kimball for more details.
The Stewardship & Finance committee has two closely related roles. During most of the year, our only task is to monitor income and expenses and identify any areas of concern. Our financial statements are all audited by Verkamp & Malone, who generate a long report that our treasurer, Barbara Ford, uses to compare cash flow against our budget. Then each fall, we organize a stewardship campaign that emphasizes giving as an expression of our relationship with God and His work in the world. After the fall campaign, we assemble a budget that the Session reviews and approves.
As you know, we are going through a transition now. I would like to personally thank Barb for stepping up to help. Eventually our new office manager will take over the day-to-day tasks, and our committee will go back to its oversight role. I would also like to make it clear that our financial information is readily available to anyone who is interested. Barb’s reports are posted in the hallway, and anyone on the committee—myself, Ray Fox, Sharlene Morgan, Mary Williams, or Barb—should be able to answer most of your questions. The exception is that any information about individual giving is known only to Barb and the office manager, and that’s only for tracking purposes. Thank you.

The Back to School Fair is on August 8. This year, the Mission Committee has selected to take pencils for the fair. They need 600 packages of #2 pencils (10/pack) for the fair, by the end of July. The Mission Committee realizes that this is very short notice, but with God’s help and our faith to help those who are in need, we know that we can meet this goal. If you do not want to shop for pencils, monetary donations will be fine.
Based on Job 1:1, 2:1-10 and James 5:7-11. Preached on July 15, 2012, by Rev. R. Lee Jennings.
