The title of Pastor Lee Jennings’ sermon for the week of December 23, 2012 is “The Cross in Christmas” based on scriptures from Isaiah 40:1-2, 9-11 and Matthew 2:13-18. The hymns for Sunday are “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear”; Solo by Mary Kwantes, “Behold the Child of Bethlehem”, “Away in a Manger”, and “Infant Holy, Infant Lowly”.

Worship begins at 9:45 am, followed by education and fellowship. Our church provides a Nursery during worship service. First Presbyterian Church is located at 919 E. Tenth Street in Rolla. Our website is www.rollapresby.org.

Sunday school is held every Sunday at 11:00 am. We offer a variety of classes for all age groups.

A reception will be held after worship service in the fellowship hall recognizing Pastor Jennings’ service.

A Congregational meeting will be held after worship service on December 30, 2012.

The Pre-School will be closed from December 24 – January 1. Classes will resume on January 2, 2013.

The office will be closed the afternoon of December 24 and all day December 25.

There will be a Candlelight Service at 7:00 pm on Monday, December 24, 2012 in the Sanctuary.

Sandy Hook

In response to the tragedy in Sandy Hook School, the First Presbyterian Church will be opening the chapel on Friday the 20th, in a one week remembrance, for prayer and meditation from 11am to 6pm.  An Elder of the church will be available. The community is welcome to come and join us on the Longest Night to seek peace and comfort in this national or any personal grief.

The cantata, “On Christmas Night” by Bob Chilcott and conducted by Jeff Sandquist  will be presented during worship this Sunday.

Worship begins at 9:45 am, followed by education and fellowship.  Our church provides a Nursery during worship service.  First Presbyterian Church is located at 919 E. Tenth Street in Rolla.  Our website is www.rollapresby.org.

Sunday School is held every Sunday at 11:00 am.  We offer a variety of classes for all age groups.

If you would like to purchase a poinsettias in honor or remembrance of someone to be placed in the sanctuary, please  have them at the church by no later than Thursday, December 20 by 3:30 pm.

There will be an intergenerational activity making Christmas cards on December 16.  This should be fun for the whole family.

The all church Christmas carry in dinner sponsored by the Presbyterian Women will be on Sunday, December 16th at 5:30 pm.  We will also be celebrating Bud Pumfrey’s birthday during this time.  The RJHS vocal jazz choir led by Kathy Mazzeo will be providing music.  Please come and celebrate the Christmas season together.

 

Cakes will be served during fellowship to celebrate Bud Pumfrey and Ida Ponzer’s birthdays.

The children will be presenting “Broadcasting Christmas!” A 1940s radio broadcast by Marti Kramer Suddarth during worship hour.  It is directed by Becky Jennings.

The hymns for Sunday are “Gentle Mary Laid Her Child”, “To a Maid Engaged to Joseph”, and “Once in Royal David’s City”.

The title of Pastor Lee Jennings’ sermon for the week of December 02, 2012 is “Hope for Ever-Increasing Love” based on scriptures from Psalm 25:1-10 and 1 Thess. 3:9-13.  The hymns for Sunday are “Lift Up Your Heads, Ye Mighty Gates”, “Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus”, and “O Come, O Come Emmanuel”.

The Mission Committee has adopted eight families from GRACE for Christmas. There is a sign up poster in the foyer of the church, along with the Christmas tree with family’s names.  If you sign up for food and gifts we ask you bring them back to the church by December 12.  If you take a child’s name, do not forget to take a stocking to be filled. If you would rather make a monetary donation make the check out to the Presbyterian Church.  In the memo space write, “Christmas baskets”.

If you have a college student or any secondary education student or a family member serving overseas, please give your student’s name, address, phone number, and/or email address to Karen Hudson (email: sprinter@fidnet.com).  The deacons would like to send them a care package.  The deadline is Monday, December 3.

Two cakes will be served during Fellowship to honor birthdays for Ida Ponzer and Bud Pumfrey on December 16, 2012.  There will also be an all church dinner at 5:00 pm that evening.

A freewill offering will be taken this Sunday for Michael Wilbanks’ mission trip to Thailand.

Presbyterian Women will be having their annual Christmas Bake Sale and Bazaar on Saturday, December 1 from 8:00 to 2:00 in the Fellowship Hall.  Please join us for a fun day of fellowship and shopping.

Christmas stockings for GRACE are being prepared.  You may pick them up during fellowship from Carol Jessop.  They are to be returned to church office by December 1, 2012.

Presbyterian Women will be having our annual Christmas Bake Sale and Bazaar on Saturday, December 1 from 8:00 to 2:00 in the Fellowship Hall.
